“We Prayed and Our Prayer Was Answered. Period.”

How often do we pray for the ones we love?  Our friend Alex shares an encouraging story of how God immediately answered a prayer for his younger sister in a time of need.

Okay – this is a really quick testimony to God’s power. The more I grow in Him – the more amazed I get by His Grace. God is good.

Some background first – My little sister is a genius – High School valedictorian, at Stanford now, double-major, pre-med, etc. We never really got along too well when we were younger growing up on 2 continents – [brothers - you know what I’m talking about when you’re 13 and your sister is 7 - she’s just messing up your game… jk jk :)] I thank God for His mercy and how He is using me and how we’ve grown. Every time I get down and discouraged it seems that God will use me to encourage those around me – including my little sister. Just as a result of that I instantaneously become exponentially happier and more encouraged. God is good.

May I share with you a clear, crisp example of God answering a prayer?
I’ve been praying for my sister to be encouraged. She’s going through a lot right now and I’ve been praying specifically for a clear sign from God to her that He loves her and that He is in complete control.

Sunday night I was praying with a couple of other people and we lifted up this prayer together. It was around 10:30pm. Literally as soon as we were done praying my phone started vibrating. It did it 2 times in a row. I chose to ignore it as I wanted to continue to pay attention to my prayer group. Then it rang a 3rd time. Finally took it out – it was my little sister…[click “Read More” below to continue]

“I better take this” I said to myself.
Sister:  “Alex!” – she said, almost crying.
Me: “Oh boy!”, I thought to myself – “something must have happened…”.
Sister: “You won’t believe this – you remember my biology test I thought I was going to fail?”
Me: “Yeah”
Sister: “I nailed it – I can’t believe this!”
Me: “Wait – when did you find this out?”
Sister: “Just RIGHT NOW”
Me: “Sunday night?”
Sister: “Yeah – right now!!”
I shared with her what just happened – how I had just been lifting her up in prayer – and all we both could say was “Praise God!”

Okay – so I know that you can try and justify this by coincidence, etc. Here’s what I know that is a fact: We prayed and our prayer was answered. Period.

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.  And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him. – 1 John 5:14-15

That tells me 3 things:
1. God is sovereign – He can do ALL things. He is Almighty, all powerful, present EVERYWHERE and amazing.
2. God answers prayers. Like my friend Dan says – the answer is not always Yes (this case it was – praise Him!). The answer is sometimes – “Later” or “Better”. That is good. His plan is perfect, so is His timing. He has the big picture in mind, I don’t. I will trust in Him.
3. Never underestimate the power of prayer. I am learning this every single day. And the lesson is good.

I thank God for little sisters. I thank God for the opportunity to learn to be a man after His own heart.  We have such an important task as men in this world – to be good brothers, friends, husbands, etc not just to our natural family but to those around us. It’s easy to get distracted from this – Just look around next time you’re at a club, or driving, or walking or watching TV. The enemy will do anything to distract us.  Keep the faith: But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. - Matthew 6:33 AMEN!

Jesus said: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’ – Luke 10:27.

We’re all in this together. Nobody has a perfect life – people have bad days, people have good days. I thank God for people – it feels so good to encourage someone and it’s amazing to be encouraged.  I thank God for His mysterious ways of building us up and growing us – I trust in the end result. All for His Glory.

God is in charge and this is our calling:
Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. – 1 Corinthians 15:58

Psalm 100 is how I feel like every day I walk with the Lord:
Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.
Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.

In Christ,
