Name Above Every Name
Have you been trusting in the name of Jesus Christ? Our editor, Touyee, shares a personal story of the power of the name above every name.
After years and years of writing my name, it has become second nature. From school papers, clothes tags, to toys, I would write my name on everything to not only remind myself that these things belonged to me, but for others as well. Eventually the ink that my name was written with would fade away, but I would gladly write my name all over again.

Recently I became an American citizen and had the thrilling option to change my name. From Tou Yee to Touyee is not a drastic change, but no two names are the same. Seeing all the things that I had written Tou Yee on and now having to cross that name out and write Touyee was an exciting adventure. From books, cds, to dvds, I was eagerly writing my new name on everything that I could get my hands on. Seeing all the things that my name was written on, I was proud of my name. Through my name, I was able to see everything that I owned, and I realized that I have been trying to write a pseudonym over my life instead of the name of Jesus Christ.
The past several weeks, I have lived trusting in the pseudonym of Touyee over my life instead of finding my trust in the name of Jesus Christ. By living through this pseudonym, I was trying to earn my own salvation. I was repenting of sins, reading my Bible every day, feverishly praying, and serving so that I would exalt my name. Through all these things, God would have to accept me because of my highly exalted name. I was not trusting in coming to the Father in the name of the Son.
Instead of finding my true identity in the name of Jesus Christ, I was hiding behind a name that will ultimately fade away. My salvation is found only through the name of Jesus Christ, for His name can only save unlike the pseudonyms of: money, career, or even my own name.
Philippians 2:9-11: For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
By placing my life in the name of Jesus Christ, when I should approach the throne of grace and an angel were to stop me and ask “What are you doing here?” I can boldly say “Jesus Christ sent me.”
