Good News: Fernando Magana’s Story
Our Editor Al will be starting a new series here on Witness LA called “Good News.” God loves us deeply, and He wants to show Himself to be good in our everyday lives. In a world where we are constantly bombarded with bad news, the articles in this series are meant to highlight God’s goodness in the lives of everyday people.
In this first interview of the series, Fernando Magana shares about how God recently blessed him in the areas of romance and finances; and how these blessings have shaped his perception of God.
“Power belongs to you, God, and with you Lord is unfailing love.” (Psalm 62:11)
Q: Tell us a little about yourself.
A: I am a 23-year old Latino and practice my Catholic religion. In the summer of 2010, I graduated from UCSB with a B.A. in psychology. I currently work in a hospital and provide Latin dance lessons on the side.
Q: Tell us about some of the specific ways God has blessed you over the course of the last year.
A: God has blessed me throughout my entire life. Last summer, I met an incredible person, who God placed in my life by no accident or coincidence. I never before had a girlfriend, however, she is not only my beloved partner, but I have no doubt that she will be the one that I marry. A few months later, my girlfriend was invited to perform at Brazil and she extended the invitation to me. However, at that time, I did not have enough money or flexibility to afford that trip. She said to me, “God provides,” and convinced me of going. At the end of last year, I began my search for a new job, as my job at that time was an hour away and gas prices were consuming my every cent. Earlier this year, I was hired to work at a hospital a couple miles down the street from where I live. Not only did God provide me with a new job opportunity, but He provided me with the “Perfect Job” as this job is well paid and flexible enough to allow me to do a trip to Brazil for a performance tour. Though God has blessed me with a girlfriend and job, I am most grateful to have a stable and healthy family.
Q: How have these blessings changed your outlook on life?
A: My faith towards God and His power has grown. I have become a more spiritual person who not only thanks God for all He does at night, but also dedicate a prayer before every meal.
Q: How have these blessings affected your view of God?
A: I know God loves us very much, and I have never doubted that. My experience just shows how much God truly loves me and my family.
Q: What would you say to those individuals who are frustrated, wondering why they have waited so long for a prayer to be answered or for a blessing?
A: God blesses us every day. We just need to be open and see all that He does for us. Having life, in and of itself is a blessing that we should be thankful for. Having a family is another blessing. Sometimes what we ask for does not always come the way we expect it to; however, God has a plan for all of us, which will be greater than what we could expect.
